How I Got Here
I started doing SEO when I was 18 — over a decade ago now. And I didn't start here in New Zealand. I got my start competing against US and international companies in some of the most cut-throat markets online. To me, that was just normal. That was the path.
There were plenty of ups and downs. It took me a few years to actually find my groove with content marketing and SEO — and things really clicked when I met Ian.
Ian was my first SEO mentor. Honestly, he taught me around 90% of the foundational skillset I still use today. I've spent the last decade building on top of it, but he's the one who got me started.
Together we took on some big projects. HealthVI grew from nothing into tens of thousands of monthly visitors. I worked on his site Stopping Scams too. Some of these were pulling 1,000 visitors a day; some hit 10,000.
Not every project was a win. I had an ecommerce build that I flunked outright — and honestly, I learned more from that one than from most of the wins. That's the part nobody tells you about SEO: the losses teach you the game.
Eventually, I came home. I'd spent years winning in markets most NZ agencies would never survive in — and when I looked at the quality of SEO Kiwi businesses were being sold, I knew I could do a lot better.
